Things are looking up. Monday at Gwi-il went well (although I think the co-teacher is doing waaay too much during my class time) and my 2-hour extra classes went off without any difficulty as I thankfully have 90% 1-st grade students this time around who are actually interested. I once again had a particularly lousy time with the 2nd grade at Gwi-il, but that's nothing new. Oddly enough, I've spent so much time meditating that I've apparently lost the ability to feel irritated this week.
As for the troublesome students at Gwi-il, I'm still not getting much actual concrete support (disciplinary issues are still being taken too lightly with regards to my class) and neither is the co-teacher although the first-grade teacher said that he would make sure that his students don't end up going the way of the current second-grade hell-raisers. I'm having three of the worst offenders see me every week; they're still not taking anything seriously, but I'm going to up the ante next week and give them an entirely new definition of evil.
Wednesday started off kind of dull; the first class of the day is kind of the graveyard class and the boring nature of the textbook certainly didn't help, but they're still fairly good kids. Second class went well. It seems that while I'm not allowed to give games in third grade, I'm still allowed to crack jokes or make over-the-top remarks. It also appears that the issue two weeks ago was more or less a matter that the co-teacher and I were just both really tired and irritated that day and things have been quite positive so far.
I certainly don't like teaching the horribly boring textbook (which I've learned that the school is stuck with for five years...), but I'm trying to find ways to sneak in a few things to spice things up and I haven't felt this invigorated in a long while.

...and negatives
Absolutely nothing has changed at Gwi-il Middle School. *surprise, suprirse*
I bring up the matter with the homeroom teachers, but I doubt that they actually do anything. I'm about ready to give up on Gwi-il. If no one really gives a damn, then why should I waste my energy when I could be focusing my attention Hallim and actually getting more results?
In any case, I look forward to Hallim Middle School.
We are given what we need..
We are given experiences that we need; something that we have to learn. Often what we need to learn is not clear, however if we don't learn it, we will constantly have these experiences come up in our lives until we learn what we needed to learn.
Just my Buddhist perspective, :) May all work out well for you.
another Buddhist perspective
...or we are simply faced with negativity from negative karma accumulated in this life or the previous.
In this case, the practice of ignoring one's own suffering or casting it all as meaningless would be the better course of action although putting such knowledge into action is another thing.
Anyways, my first grade classes at Gwi-il are good; I just don't like being confined to textbook material and acting as a virtual tape recorder for half the class time. The second grade is a lost cause and therefore pushing the issue is a meaningless pursuit. At times it almost seems as if the second grade teacher gives up!
