- Blow up balloons of different colors
- Send 4 or 5 balloons into class
- Balloons cannot touch the ground
- Students call out color of balloon every they hit one
- Have balloon colors represent different vocabulary words
- Have balloon colors represent sentences for more advanced classes
This game can be used with any size class but works better with larger classes. Just make sure the door is closed because the young kids go crazy. Also, be careful of them jumping out of their chairs to hit balloons.
A big thanks to Ted for this EFL/ESL game!

Do you really think this is
Do you really think this is appropriate for middle schoolers? Kindergarten students would think this was childish.
Is there some way to organize ideas on here by grade, instead of having way too difficult material smashed in in way too easy materials?
If you don't think your
If you don't think your students would enjoy it, then don't play it? That seems like an easy enough way to "organize ideas," don't you think? I think this sounds like a fun game for younger children. You could try writing vocab words on the balloons for variety or to teach associations between common nouns and colors (blue sky, red firetruck, green grass, etc.)
re: childish
OK, really? Who doesn't like hitting balloons around? Kids will always think something is stupid and childish if you treat it as such. With enough excitement and energy for the game I could get my high schoolers playing this game.
It looks like a great warm-up
It looks like a great warm-up for my students! I can picture them jumping to hit the balloons. I was thinking it could also be done to review vocabulary from different topics. Have each colour balloon represent a category, for instance, HOUSE / WEATHER / FEELINGS. The teacher calls out a word (E.g.: bedroom)and sts are expected to hit the balloon that represents HOUSE. Hope all of you like it!
English Game Review
Great idea for a way to expand on the game!
