EFL/ESL Games

Only 5 minutes until class starts and you still need to find an EFL/ESL game to play.

We have all been there and trying to find an ESL game that is appropriate for your students always takes more time than you have. In order to help everyone find the right English game quickly, TeachEnglishInAsia.net is compiling a database of EFL/ESL games. Each game will be listed in the same format and organized into several categories so that you will easily be able to find what you need.

These categories are called 'tags' and include both the target level of students and skills used in each game. Some examples are 'Adult EFL/ESL Games', 'Middle School EFL/ESL Games', "EFL/ESL Grammar Games', 'EFL/ESL Speaking Games', etc. Click on these tags to access a list of all games that have that tag. In other words, if you want to find English games for your middle school class, click on the 'Middle School EFL/ESL Games' tag found at the top of any game for middle school students.

Vocabulary

Objective:

Students use fly swatters to hit vocab words on the board

Write vocabulary words scattered across the board
Place two chairs in front of the board with a fly swatter on each chair
Divide class into two equal teams
Have one student from each team sit in the chairs with their backs to the board
Say one of the vocabulary words on the board
Students stand and find the word on the board
Students get one swat and the first student to hit the word with their fly swatter gets one point for their team
If neither students hits the right word, the next students are up and no points are awarded.
Repeat until everyone has had at least one turn

Use pictures for young students who haven't learned the alphabet

This game can be used with any level student who needs to practice vocabulary and is an exciting way to warm up the class. Students will often get loud so don't let teammates shout the answer or location of the word.
