Finding a Respectable Employer in Korea

When looking for an English teaching job in Korea, there are several things you can do to help ensure that your prospective employer is someone you want to work for.

Ask for phone numbers and e-mail addresses of current and former foreign teachers and contact them to find out about their work experiences. Any place that refuses to give you this information or has not had any foreign teachers is most likely not somewhere you want to work.

Search online for information about the institution. There are some websites set-up specifically for the purpose of keeping foreign teachers informed about conditions at different English language institutions in Korea. Some list schools where foreign teachers have negative experiences , such as the hagwon Blacklist and Blacklisted. The Greenlist maintains a directory of English schools that people who have worked there recommend.

For those working in Seoul, the Seoul metropolitan government has an office that helps foreigners working in there. The Seoul Help Center is open Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 6:00pm. It is located on the second floor of City Hall and the address is:
