A friend of mine from high school just moved out to Busan. Does anyone know of any cool bars there?

O'Briens
hey charles.there are lots of cool bars in Busan. I live in Gimhae which is right next door, so i try to find things to do in Busan on the weekends. it all depends on what kind of bar your friend is looking for. Foreigner Barsone of the most popular (correct me if i'm wrong) bars that i've found (and i've been there... check out my blog for a picture of their nachos...) is O'Briens - http://www.obriens-bar.com/ they cater to the foreign crowd by stocking foreign beer, serving foreign food, and playing foreign music. the bar is set up in a pretty cool way - there are several different booths and each one is dedicated to a country where ESL teachers come from - Canada, USA, Britain, etc... so if you have something from home that you can part with, it's cool to bring it and leave it behind. i left a montreal subway ticket in the Canada booth - i have yet to be back and see if it's still there... so if you're looking for something foreign, it's a great place to go. they stock a ton of foreign beer - Stella Artois on tap, molson products in bottle, guinness... sorry i can't remember what else, but they have a great selection, not to mention a good atmosphere, and really friendly owners. i can't help much more with bars, my friends and i usually just pick a spot and check it out... like i said, it all depends on what he's looking for. a great resource for anyone living in Busan is PusanWeb - http://pusanweb.com/index.htm - for all things Busan. hope this helped!lizm :)oh ya, O'Briens also has a bar in Changwon... haven't been yet, but i'll get there!
a fun district in busan (with bars)!
I really liked the Gwangalli Beach area, you go right down to the beach and there are several bars and soju tents. (the soju tents on the boardwalk are a bit expensive though because you have to order food - fresh seafood - which starts at about 20,000 W for a plate to share). A lot of people, enough watering holes, and fantasic views of crazy neon reflecting on the water... we didn't really see any other foreigners when we were there, but everyone was super friendly!
avoid foreigner's street (also known as texas street) though - it's absolutely sketch, even in broad daylight.
Wow, that sounds really
Wow, that sounds really homey. I bet places like that are nice when you get homesick longing for those things that are not so commonly found halfway around the world. I know from my experience studying abroad in College that I really could appreciate any place that tried to make foreigners feel at home. Thanks for the overview of this place, it sounds like an awesome place to check out!
