Bali is the name of a mythological monkey king. Bali and Sugriva were two brothers who built an army of monkeys to help Rama rescue Sita from Ravana from Lanka (present-day Sri Lanka). This takes place in the Ramayana. The Ramayana can be considered as the prevalent Hindu document which informs Hindu culture in Indonesia.
