Here is a shot of the foothills of the Zailiysky Alatau outside of Kazakhstan's largest city, Almaty City (pop 1,185,900). Nomadic herdsmen use this beautiful region of glaciers, steep valleys, and wild rivers for summer pastures. With more than 4,000 meters (13,120 ft) of peaks between them, Zailiysky Alatau and Kungey Alatau serve as the greatest attraction for trekkers to Kazakhstan.
There are many travel agents in Almaty City that can arrange a guide through the dozens of trails.
