Yi Seong-gye, the founder of the Joseon Dynasty, prayed and meditated at Geum Mountian (Geumsan) for a hundred days. Geumsan, which is near the township of Sangju in Namhae-gun, is considered one of the most beautiful mountains in Korea and is part of the Hallyeo National Marine Park of Gyeongnam Province. Geumsan's elaborate square-shaped pinnacles have earned it the reputation of being the "little Geumgang Mountain." On Geumsan mountain is Boriam temple, one of the major Buddhist temples in Namhae.
