Busan's Jinjiseong Castle was the main fortress of Busan. The remaining eastern and western gates and the pavilions at this site date back to the Joseon Period. During the Imjinwaeran, the invading Japanese forces temporarily occupied the castle and when the invasion was repulsed, it was occupied by Ming Chinese forces. During the Japanese occupation of Korea in the 20th century, it was partially demolished for the expansion of Busan city.
