Despite facing great challenges from its highly competitive neighbors, the Goguryeo kingdom successfully survived and flourished during the fourth and fifth centuries CE. While it suffered many severe blows, it was able to experience a tremendous rebound under the reign of Gwanggaeto the Great. It was in this great rebound that the Goguryeo kingdom reached its apex.
