This is the front gate of Changdeokgung.
Changdeokgung is one of the "Five Grand Palaces" of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910 CE). It is unique in that it is built in accordance to Korean aesthetic sensibilities as opposed to the Chinese-influenced styles of palatial complexes; Changdeokgung is well-integrated to nature as opposed to imposing on it. The palace was built in 1405 under the reign of King Taejong. It was destroyed during the Japanese invasion in 1592-1598, but was reconstructed shortly after. As the most aesthetically pleasing and comfortable palace, it was favored by most kings of the Joseon era.
