Teaching English in Taiwan remains a popular choice for TEFL in Asia. China's economic rise has made Taiwan even more attractive as people have the opportunity to learn Mandarin Chinese and make twice what teachers make in China.

The great demand for TEFL teachers in Taiwan is fueled by the country's export-based economy and its special relationship with the United States, educationally, politically, and militarily. One of the reasons for Taiwan's tremendous economic success has been the fact that so many Taiwanese have and continue to go to the United States for higher education, which has led to a highly educated society and helped people to develop relationships with American businesses.

With all the money being spent on learning English in Taiwan, native teachers are in constant demand and can expect to make a salary large enough to live comfortably, do some traveling, and save money. Many jobs also provide a stipend or even reimbursement for a one-way ticket to Taiwan and a monthly housing stipend to help defray the cost of renting an apartment. Some jobs also provide accomodations for thier foreign teachers so be sure to look at more than just base salary when looking for a TEFL job in Taiwan.
