EPIK- the English Program In Korea is one of the biggest employers of teachers in Korea. They hire for basically all the public schools in Korea (except Seoul this semester). They've got a great program and super benefits.
You will be matched with a specific school within the province of preference during the orientation period according to your abilities and interests.
This semester there are over 100 positions in Gyeongbuk province starting this February. Note that the starting salary for teaching in this province is higher than the metropolitan locations. Salaries start at 2.1 million won!
Many of the towns and mid-sized cities in this province are deeply rooted with unique traditional culture and history providing an immersion in the Korean experience. Air quality is cleaner in rural areas than in most big cities across South Korea, plus the cost of living is generally lower.
Some of the towns & cities in Gyeongbuk include:
Gyeongju- the ancient capital of Korea during the Silla dynasty (57BC - 935AD), so is home to some magnificent relics. From temples to shrines to tombs of its historic inhabitants. Through rooted in history, it's also home to an impressive modern national museum and UNESCO world heritage sites.
Andong- known amongst Koreans for it's mask festival each year, it's also a sizable city in the heartland of Korea.
Hiking- there are numerous opportunities for hiking and any other sort of outdoor activities.
Coast- Gyeongbuk lines the eastern coast of Korea with rocky shorelines, the occasional pebble beach and many fishing towns. Catch a ferry out to Ulleungdo, about 75 miles off the coast.
These are excellent ESL teaching opportunities for teachers who are looking to spread their wings and gain invaluable and transferable teaching experience in public schools in Korea. For first-time teachers, whether you have never taught abroad or never taught at all, these jobs represent an amazing opportunity to gain classroom experience. Preference is given to those with experience but if you are a sincere, motivated person who loves to work with young kids, this could be a perfect opportunity for you.
You will have a Korean co-teacher in the class with you. Your co-teacher will be a Korean who speaks and teaches English.
