Win $100 for your EFL/ESL Game

Only 5 minutes until class starts and you still need to find an EFL/ESL game to play.

We have all been there and trying to find a game that is appropriate for your students always takes more time than you have. In order to help everyone find the right English game quickly, TeachEnglishInAsia.net is compiling a database of EFL/ESL games. Each game will be listed in the same format and organized into several categories so that you will be able to find what you need quickly.

More importantly, we are giving away $100 to help motivate you to submit your games. For each ESL/EFL game you submit, a piece of paper with your user name will be placed in a box. On April 1, 2007, one name will be chosen from the box and the winner will be contacted via e-mail. Payment can be made via Paypal, US bank check, Western Union, Moneybookers.com, money order, etc. so you will get your money no matter where you are in the world.

Here is the format for submitting your ESL/EFL games and activities:

  1. Name of game
  2. Target students
  3. Duration
  4. Number of students
  5. Skills (listening, spelling, speaking, writing, reading, thinking, etc.)
  6. Objective
  7. Simple instructions
  8. Variations
  9. Notes/comments

Here is an example:

Name of ESL/EFL Game: Fly Swatter

Target Students: Elementary School, Middle School, High School

Duration: 20 minutes or more if students are into it enough

Number of Students: 10-30 or more

Skills: Listening, Word Recognition, Vocabulary

Objective: Hear the word and swat the corresponding picture on the board

Instructions:

  1. Write vocabulary words scattered across the board
  2. Place two chairs in front of the board with a fly swatter on each chair
  3. Divide class into two equal teams
  4. Have one student from each team sit in the chairs with their backs to the board
  5. Say one of the vocabulary words on the board
  6. Students stand and find the word on the board
  7. Students get one swat and the first student to hit the word with their fly swatter gets one point for their team
  8. If neither students hits the right word, the next students are up and no points are awarded.
  9. Repeat until everyone has had at least one turn.

Variations:

  • Use pictures for young students who haven't learned the alphabet

Notes:

This game can be used with any level student who needs to practice vocabulary and is an exciting way to warm up the class. Students will often get loud so don't let teammates shout the answer or location of the word.

Submissions of ESL/EFL games can be made here.

We look forward to sharing your games with everyone and trying them in class.

Good luck with the drawing!
